Indo-German exchange on data protection
Online 14:00-15:20 (IST) / 10:30-11:50 (CEST)
In 2018, the EU introduced the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), a comprehensive set of rules governing the collection and processing of data. India recently passed the Digital Personal Data Protection (DPDP) Act in August 2023 to safeguard digital personal data. Both Germany and India recognise the importance of data protection standards as well as promoting a common understanding of data protection.
Therefore, as part of the Indo-German Digital Dialogue, the Indian Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) host a bilateral exchange on data protection. It will take place in a hybrid format on 20 October 2023 from 14:00-15:20 (IST) / 10:30-11:50 (CEST).
The aim of the exchange is to foster the understanding of data policies in Germany and India. Both sides will provide insights into current developments and good practices related to the different data protection regulations, and then engage in discussions on their impact.
This hybrid session will bring together representatives from BMDV, MeitY, state data protection offices and relevant institutions focused on data protection and regulation.
