2. Information on the collection of personal data
2.1. General
GiZ is a globally active non-profit service provider for international cooperation. As a private-sector company of the German Federal Government, it works towards the development policy goal of improving people's living conditions worldwide and preserving natural resources. As part of the International Digital Dialogues, GiZ supports the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport) in specialist policy and technical dialogues in the department of digitalisation.
GiZ processes personal data exclusively in accordance with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Federal Data Protection Act (BDSG). Personal data includes, for example, the name, address, email addresses and behaviour of users. Personal data is processed by GiZ only to the extent necessary. Matomo uses cookies that enable a statistical analysis of the use of the GiZ-website. Matomo cookies do not contain any information that enables a user to be identified. Each time the website is accessed and each time a file is retrieved, data about this process is temporarily stored and processed in a log file. Before storage, each data record is anonymised by changing the IP address.
GiZ evaluates usage information for statistical purposes as part of its public relations work and for the needs-based provision of information as part of its tasks (basis: Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e General Data Protection Regulation in conjunction with § 3 BDSG).
3. Processing of personal data when contacting us and registering for events
When users contact us or register for newsletters or events, the data provided is processed in order to be able to deal with the enquiry. The following contact options are available:

3.1. Contact form
On our website, a form offers the possibility to contact us electronically. When using the contact form, your title, surname, first name, Email address and your company affiliation and function are processed. The processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 (1) e GDPR for the purpose of receiving the request formulated in the contact form. The data is not transmitted to third parties. The transmission to the International Digital Dialogues project takes place via an SSL-encrypted connection, so that unauthorised access is made considerably more difficult

3.2. Registration form for events
On our website, we offer registration forms for events where personal data is provided. The data is entered into an input mask and transmitted to us and stored. The data is not passed on to third parties

The processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 (1) b GDPR for the purpose of recording the registration for the respective event. 3.3. Other enquiries
Postal addresses and mail addresses as well as other information provided in the context of enquiries are used exclusively for correspondence.

A free newsletter is offered on our website.
Personal data is used for the purpose of processing the respective newsletter. The data is processed and used exclusively for sending the newsletter. When registering for the newsletter, the data from the input mask is transmitted to us.
After entering the email address, users receive an email with a confirmation link to confirm the authenticity of the address and the subscription ("double opt-in"). If you do not confirm the registration via the link in this email, the data will be deleted immediately.
The legal basis for the processing of the data processed in the course of sending the newsletter is your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) a GDPR.
The order of the newsletter can be cancelled at any time. If the subscription is cancelled, all personal data will be deleted from our database
3.5. Application for the fellowship programme
When using an application form, we process your first name, surname, email address, postal address, nationality and date of birth (month and year). In addition, we process the data shared from the CV sent. Data from the CV is also processed. Processing is carried out on the basis of Art. 6 (1) b GDPR for the purpose of application and selection of Fellows. The application documents submitted by you, including the personal data contained therein, will only be processed for the purpose intended in the application and will be deleted no later than 6 months after the purpose of processing no longer applies (usually completion of the procedure). Upon request, the data will be deleted immediately. Your data will not be passed on to third parties. We reserve the right to contact possible successors within the framework of the Fellowship and within the above-mentioned period.

User data is not kept any longer than is necessary for the purpose for which it is processed or as required by law.
8. IT security of user data
The protection of personal data is an important concern to GiZ. Therefore, technical and organisational security measures ensure that data is protected against accidental and intentional manipulation, unintended erasure and unauthorised access. These measures are updated according with technical developments and constantly adapted to the risks.
9. Your rights
Visitors to the GIZ website have the right to

- withdraw your consent, provided that the processing of the data has been carried out on the basis of consent (Art. 6 para. 1 a) GDPR). The lawfulness of the processing based on the consent given remains unaffected until the reception of the withdrawal.
- In accordance with Art. 77 GDPR, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the competent data protection supervisory authority. The competent authority for GIZ is the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).
