First German-Korean Digital Dialogue: Signing of a Memorandum of Understanding

On 5 September 2022, the first regular meeting of the German-Korean Digital Dialogue took place. State Secretary Stefan Schnorr (German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport, BMDV) welcomed a delegation from the Korean Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) led by Vice Minister Park Yun Kyu.

State Secretary Schnorr and Vice Minister Park signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the beginning of the meeting, affirming both sides' commitment to cooperate on key digitalisation issues.

As the meeting progressed, high-ranking representatives of the ministries and agencies involved from both countries presented priority topics for the dialogue. These included bilateral alignment of political strategies and initiatives, joint efforts in high-tech research and networking of tech startups from both countries.

High-level participants from both countries

On the German side, in addition to BMDV, participants included the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the National Metrology Institute (PTB), Germany Trade & Invest (GTAI) and the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence. On the Korean side, in addition to MSIT, the National IT Industry Promotion Agency, the 5G Forum and the K-Global Startup Hub participated in the first dialogue.

Both sides agreed to continue working on the issues discussed with the involvement of stakeholders from business, research and civil society. The Digital Dialogue will meet regularly every two years to discuss the results of the collaboration at a high level.
