Launch of the Gaia-X Hub in Brazil
Brazil
The technical mission contemplated a series of meetings in São Paulo and Brasília to discuss data spaces in Brazil with strategic partners from the private sector and public administration.
Among the main results of the mission is the launch of the Gaia-X Hub in Brazil, to be implemented in partnership with ABINC. Ahle also invited Brazil to join the Gaia-X International Advisory Board with two seats, one for ABINC and the other for the Ambassador for Technology and Innovation, Eugênio Garcia.
The Gaia-X Hub in Brazil
The Gaia-X ecosystem allows for participants to define data-sharing rules and use data collaboratively. The Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud represents more than 260 international companies and plays a key role in the European data sovereignty strategy.
During the technical mission, a partnership agreement was signed between ABINC and Gaia-X, with the aim of launching the Gaia-X Hub and accelerating the transformation of the data economy in Brazil.
The Hub in Brazil will be the fifth in the world outside the European Union and the first one in South America. It will act as a connection point for companies to share knowledge and coordinate strategies on data sharing under the Gaia-X infrastructure. The initiative reinforces Brazil’s commitment to adopting shared principles and standards for data sharing.
Visit to Brasília
In Brasília, Ahle met with members of the ABINC board and representatives from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI), National Confederation of Industry (CNI), Institutional Security Office of the Presidency of the Republic (GSI/PR), Brazilian Industrial Development Agency (ABDI) and Instituto Eldorado.
The board of ABINC and Ahle presented the Gaia-X Hub during the event “Data Spaces Brazil – The new data economy”, one of several workshops with Brazilian authorities.
Workshops with public sector authorities
During the workshops, it became clear that there is potential to quickly onboard other data spaces in Brazil, including Decade-X and Aerospace. For the integration of data spaces, identification and signatures are crucial topics, as the Gaia-X Compliance Document defines eIDAS as the standard for this purpose. Consequently, a dialogue started between the EU and Brazil on mutual recognition of e-signatures.
Next steps
Right after the visit from Gaia-X to Brazil, it was decided that Brazil is to join the business use case “Federated Trust”, an initiative of the international Manufacturing-X Council. This initiative will be presented at Hannover Messe 2026.
ABINC is now mandated to create a working group focused on adopting the Gaia-X Compliance Document to the local legislative framework in Brazil. This involves engaging all relevant stakeholders and aligning with the ongoing development of the National Data Economy Policy (PNED) in Brazil. The PNED will be based on the EU Data Act and Data Governance Act.
