The guide gives an overview of successful ways to use 5G connectivity in Mexico. It focuses on globally relevant areas: manufacturing, health, transport, energy and education. The authors also consider further important areas in which 5G technology can have a substantial impact.

Collaboration of Mexican and German stakeholders

The publication stems from Mexican-German multi-stakeholder exchanges. In February 2023, the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the Mexican Federal Ministry of Infrastructure, Communication and Transport (SICT) had agreed on fostering the exchange of 5G best practices and use cases in both countries.

The Secretariat for the Mexican-German Digital Dialogue facilitated the exchange meetings as well as the co-creation of the guide. The journey of the co-creation included two workshops, several interviews with stakeholders as well as comprehensive research and contributions by NTT DATA Mexico on behalf of the secretariat.

Opportunities and challenges of 5G implementation

The guide considers the perspectives of government, academia and business as well as civil society. It introduces the reader to the potential of 5G application in the sectors of education, data centres, manufacturing, smart cities, smart roads and railway and aims to generate further discussions on common challenges and opportunities of 5G implementation. Examples, concrete opportunities and ideas for experimentation round off the publication.

Lastly, the guide provides specific recommendations and calls to action to increase the implementation of 5G connectivity in Mexico.
