"Shaping the future with technology" – exchange and insights at Hannover Messe 2025

Republic of Korea

Progress in implementing the Joint Working Plan of the German-Korean Digital Dialogue was made during the world’s leading industrial trade fair last week. Hannover Messe offered a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to connect with potential cooperation partners and explore cutting-edge digital technologies.

The Korean delegation at the booth of Gaia-X Hub Germany

On Thursday, 3 April 2025, a delegation from the Korean city of Daegu visited the fair to discuss opportunities for collaboration in international data spaces within the framework of the German-Korean cooperation. The delegation, composed of experts in the fields of Digital Innovation, Autonomous Operating Systems, AI, Big Data and Digital Twin technology, exchanged ideas for future cooperation at the Gaia-X Hub Germany and Industrie 4.0 booths.

Driving Digital Policy Through Use Cases and Cooperation

One key outcome being pursued is the development of use cases in various domains, aimed at generating insights for short-term technical policy recommendations. These findings will then be relayed to policymakers in both countries to support effective digital policy-making. Several German research institutes have already expressed their interest in contributing to these use cases.

To solidify the partnership, a letter of intent is planned, along with a joint agreement on resource allocation. These concrete next steps reflect the strong momentum behind the initiative.

The Secretariat of the German-Korean Digital Dialogue coordinated meetings at the fair to engage potential cooperation partners in discussions on the latest developments in digital technology, economy and trade. These activities further support the implementation of the Joint Working Plan, signed in January 2025 by the respective ministries overseeing the bilateral Digital Dialogue: Germany’s BMDV and Korea’s MSIT.

Hannover Messe: A Long-Standing Platform for Technology and Innovation

From 31 March to 4 April 2025, the Hannover Messe at Hannover International Fair Grounds hosted more than 4,000 exhibitors and 130,000 guests. Since its inception in 1947, the fair has been one of the world’s most significant and longest-standing technology exhibitions. In 2025, its key themes included digital ecosystems, smart manufacturing and industrial energy solutions. More than 300 start-ups showcased their innovations, with the Future Hub highlighting cutting-edge developments in quantum technologies.
