Brazil

From 20 to 24 April, representatives from the Brazilian Ministry for Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) as well as other Brazilian organisations visited Germany. They attended Hannover Messe and met with representatives of the German government and industry to jointly plan cooperation activities and innovation projects. The highlight of the delegation visit was the annual meeting of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue.

The annual meeting of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue took place on 22 April at Hannover Messe. It was jointly chaired by Henrique Miguel, Brazilian Secretary for Science, Technology and Innovation of MCTI, and Marco-Alexander Breit, Director General at the German Federal Ministry for Digitalisation and Government Modernisation (BMDS).

High-level public and private sector representatives from both countries discussed the progress of the bilateral cooperation and planned joint innovation projects through a shared work plan. They agreed to focus on two key priorities: the data economy and sector-specific AI.

Signing of the German-Brazilian AI Partnership

During the Hannover Messe, Federal Minister Dr Karsten Wildberger (BMDS) and Brazilian Deputy Minister Dr Luis Fernandes (MCTI) also signed the German-Brazilian AI Partnership for Innovation and Trust.

The goal of the five-year agreement is to jointly promote a development and application of AI that generates economic and societal value. The partnership will be implemented within the framework of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue.

Still at the fair, the Secretariat for the Digital Dialogues presented the first EU-Brazil Industrial Data Space Demonstrator. It was collaboratively developed by the German Association for Machinery and Equipment Manufacturers (VDMA), the Brazilian Association for IoT (ABINC) and the Brazilian National Confederation Industry (CNI).

The demonstrator shows, in real time, how industrial data can be securely shared between a rare earth mining facility in Brazil and an industrial plant in Germany, without losing data sovereignty on either side.

Brazilian delegation meets German companies and universities

During their week-long visit, the delegation visited technology centres, companies and universities across Germany, including the cloud-computing company SysEleven, the Association of the Internet Industry (eco) and the Technical University of Aachen, as well as the facilities of the Jülich Supercomputing Centre.

Another highlight was the launch event of a Minimal Viable Product (MVP), developed by BG BAU and Dataprev under the framework of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue. The MVP is a mobile application designed to support occupational risk assessment and accident-prevention in real work environments. The app will be made available in both countries.

Overall, the delegation visit further strengthened the bilateral relations between Germany and Brazil and advanced concrete and practical collaboration between Brazilian and German actors.
