Dear reader, Welcome to our first newsletter in 2024. We invite you to have a look at some interesting developments and activities within the International Digital Dialogues! The International Digital Dialogues are a multi-stakeholder platform for bilateral exchange on digital policy issues. Germany and its partner countries aim to jointly shape better conditions for digital transformation worldwide. The governments are in regular dialogue with stakeholders from business, academia and civil society to ensure that political approaches meet current needs. In this newsletter, we present the latest news as well as upcoming events to you – from the publication of a cybersecurity guide for small businesses in Brazil to the Data-Driven Cities Conference in Kenya. Exciting news are also the publication of Germany’s first Strategy for International Digital Policy for which we had organised stakeholder consultations. News from the International Digital DialoguesGENERALPublication: Germany's Strategy for International Digital Policy On 7 February 2024, Germany’s first Strategy for International Digital Policy was published by the federal government. It serves as a shared compass for Germany's global digital policy engagement. The strategy is the prelude to and the foundation of an implementation process that will continue to involve stakeholders intensively.
BRAZILPublication: Quick guide on cybersecurity for small businesses The Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue developed a quick guide on cybersecurity for micro and small enterprises (in Brazil: Micro e Pequenas Empresas, MPEs). The publication aims to raise awareness among Brazilian MPEs of their own vulnerability in the digital ecosystem. It is written in Portuguese and available for download.
INDIAA Team Europe approach The EU-India Trade and Technology Council (TTC) consists of three working groups. In Working Group 1, the focus lies on the topics of strategic technologies, digital governance and digital connectivity. To support the objectives of this working group, there is a joint action by India, the EU and BMDV: The EU-India Digital Policy Dialogue. It is implemented by GIZ and will follow a strong Team Europe approach.
KENYAData-Driven Cities: Conference for the Urban Common Good At the invitation of the German and Kenyan governments, the Data-Driven Cities: Conference for the Urban Common Good took place in Nairobi, Kenya on 12 and 13 February 2024. Around 200 participants on site and online discussed how data can be used successfully to promote the urban common good.
Kenyan-German Digital Dialogue: Signing of the work plan and stakeholder meeting The first work plan of the Kenyan-German Digital Dialogue was signed by State Secretary Stefan Schnorr (BMDV) and Jackson Makewa, Director ICT of the Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy. Around 110 representatives from business, civil society, academia and the public sector then exchanged views on the focus topics.
MEXICOFirst Annual Meeting of the Mexican-German Digital Dialogue On 15 January 2024, the Mexican Ministry of Economy (Economía), the Mexican Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (Comunicaciones) and BMDV jointly committed to exchange and work on areas of interest related to digital policy in both countries. They signed a work plan for the Mexican-German Digital Dialogue for 2024.
Workshop: The impact of digital transformation on MSMEs in Mexico and Germany On 28 February 2024, representatives from the German Association for Small and Medium-sized Businesses (BVMW), the Mexico Competitiveness Center (CCMX) and micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) from Mexico and Germany gathered for a virtual workshop. They shared experiences on how digital transformation impacts MSMEs in both countries.
