Shaping the future of internet and AI governance
The Government of Germany’s (GoG) ‘Strategy for International Digital Policy’ is a clear commitment to a global, free, and open internet and the continuation of the multi-stakeholder approach to internet governance. Turning this commitment into action, the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) launched a process for strategic foresight with the involvement of various German stakeholders and communities in September. In addition, the BMDV is also promoting the involvement of German stakeholders, particularly German youth, in international forums with the ‘International Digital Policy’ fellowship.

Webinar: Paving the Way to Sustainable AI
On 10 July, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue organised an online webinar titled “AI, Regulation, and the Environment: Pathways to a Sustainable Planet”, in partnership with the G20 engagement groups Business 20 (B20) and Think Tanks 20 (T20). Speakers from around the globe discussed the benefits and challenges of incorporating sustainability into AI systems.

Content moderators workshop
The civil society organisations Siasa Place and Superrr Lab hosted a workshop that brought together content moderators and data annotators from both Kenya and Germany. This collaborative event served as a significant learning exchange, allowing participants to gain insights into the experiences of their international counterparts. It was part of the Kenyan-German Digital Dialogue and was supported by the Digital Transformation Center Kenya and its Gig Economy initiative.

Green Paper: Structuring data spaces in Brazil

On 18 July, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue, in collaboration with the Code for Development (Code4Dev) initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), hosted the webinar "Learn to Deploy the Open-Source Tool openIMIS." The event healthcare professionals, software developers, and social protection administrators to debate the management of healthcare systems and social protection programs.

Panel discussion on disinformation and deepfakes
The use of AI-generated images and videos to spread disinformation is on the rise worldwide. State Secretary Stefan Schnorr from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) discussed current challenges and possible solutions with stakeholders from research and industry as part of the Singaporean-German Digital Dialogue at the AsiaTech x Singapore 2024 summit.
