Workshop at the Brazilian IGF on international standards and the Brazilian AI regulation
On 24 May, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue and the EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue organised the panel discussion “Between the global and the local: the pros and cons of adopting international standards in AI regulation in Brazil” at the 14th Brazilian Internet Governance Forum (FIB). Experts discussed the influence of international technical standards on AI regulation, with special focus on the Brazilian draft legislation.

AsiaTech x Singapore 2024: Exchange on the Singaporean-German Digital Dialogue
From 29 to 31 May 2024, State Secretary Schnorr from the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) took part in the AsiaTech x Singapore technology conference as part of the Singaporean-German Digital Dialogue. State Secretary Schnorr met with German and Singaporean stakeholders in the technology sector. He also agreed on the next steps of the Digital Dialogue with the Singaporean Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI) and its digital agency Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).

International Digital Dialogues at re:publica 2024
The German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) was present with a booth at re:publica 2024 – the largest festival for the digital society in Europe. At BMDV’s booth, interviews and discussions with stakeholders from the International Digital Dialogues took place. Three different topics took centre stage: freedom and security in the digital space, Kenya's digital ecosystem and the role of start-ups for a sustainable digital transformation.

Kenyan-German policy exchange: Developing an AI strategy
On 22 May 2024, the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy (MICDE) discussed Germany’s learnings and best practices in developing its national AI strategy.

EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue: Exchange with the Brazilian civil society at EU Day
The Secretariat for the EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue and Partnership Facility and the European Union Delegation to Brazil jointly coordinated exchanges with civil society at the "European Union Day", in São Paulo on 9 May 2024. During three discussion rounds, representatives from civil society brought in pressing issues in the digital field, such as the regulation of artificial intelligence (AI), internet governance and meaningful connectivity.

Indonesian-German exchange on data protection authorities and officers
The Secretariat for the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue organised an exchange on data protection authorities (DPA) and data protection officers (DPO) in Germany and Indonesia. It was set up on behalf of the two partner ministries – the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) and the Indonesian Ministry of Communications and Informatics (MCI). The exchange took place on 2 May and revolved around DPA and DPO frameworks. It followed up on a fruitful exchange on personal data protection held last year.

Panel discussion about data spaces in the aviation sector
On 23 April, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue and the EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue participated in the panel discussion “Aviation data spaces: The importance of promoting interoperability in the aviation sector”. It took place at the Digital Week of the Brazilian National Agency for Civil Aviation (ANAC). The panel highlighted the importance of data spaces for secure, trustworthy and interoperable data sharing.

Side event during Web Summit Rio: Scaling AI-based business models in Brazil
On 15 April, an exchange on “Scaling AI-based business models in Brazil” took place as a side event during the Web Summit Rio. The event was a collaboration between the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue and the EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue, the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). It provided guidance to European start-ups for a better understanding of the Brazilian market, covering topics from AI regulation to talent acquisition.

Launch of the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Hub in Brazil
The Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue and the EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue supported the establishment of an International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Hub in Brazil. The hub will act as a facilitator for companies that want to contribute to the development of data spaces in Brazil. The launch event was attended by representatives from both the private and public sector as well as data governance specialists.
