Public consultation for the next broadband bidding in Mexico

In early January 2023, the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) published a notice for the opening of a public consultation. The goal is to gather information and proposals for the design and preparation of the next public tender. The result will be the granting of concessions for the use and commercial exploitation of frequency bands of the radio spectrum, available for the provision of wireless access services.

Brazilian-German exchange about data protection policy

On 7 December 2022, the Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue initiated an online exchange series about data protection. Representatives from both the public and private sectors attended the first technical exchange which was held in Portuguese. The topic of the discussion was the dosimetry of administrative sanctions. IGF 2022: Workshop on global AI governance for sustainable development

On 1 December, the International Digital Dialogues organised a hybrid workshop at the UN Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2022 to discuss the global governance of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for sustainable development. The speakers agreed that inclusive multi-stakeholder approaches are essential for developing AI governance frameworks, and that there is a need for AI governance structures that actively promote sustainable development.

The technical exchange on e-government between the Brazilian Ministry of Economy (ME) and the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) was held on 22 November 2022. During the virtual meeting, both sides presented their experiences and challenges regarding the digitalisation of public administration.

First Brazilian Stakeholder Consultations for the Digital Dialogue

On 16 and 17 November 2022, the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) held the first consultations with Brazilian stakeholders of the German-Brazilian Digital Dialogue. Stakeholders from the private sector, civil society and academia attended the event. It was structured into three thematic sessions: Web 3.0 and Quantum Computing, Digital Health and Twin Transition.

Indonesia passes personal data protection bill into law

Until September this year, personal data regulations in Indonesia were scattered across finance, telecommunications and labour law. This made it difficult for businesses and consumers to account for data misuse and malpractice. With a new data protection law, Indonesia now holds both local and international businesses liable for handling personal data.

Indo-German exchange on innovation and e-governance

From 26 to 28 October 2022, a delegation headed by Benjamin Brake, Director General (DG) for Digital and Data Policy at the German Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), visited Bangalore and New Delhi. The visit reaffirmed the continuously strong cooperation between Germany and India on the topic of digitalisation.
