Welcome to the latest news and upcoming events of the International Digital Dialogues.

The International Digital Dialogues are a multi-stakeholder platform for bilateral exchange on digital policy issues. Germany and its partner countries aim to jointly shape better conditions for digital transformation worldwide. The governments are in regular dialogue with stakeholders from business, academia and civil society to ensure that political approaches meet current needs.

All partners and stakeholders are invited to participate in the very first International Digital Dialogues Conference from 21-22 November in Berlin! Sign up to express your interest in participation until 15 July. As part of the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue, a webinar on AI regulation and environmental sustainability will take place on 10 July. You are invited to follow the livestream and engage in the discussion.

GENERAL

International Digital Dialogues Conference – Shaping digital policy together

21-22 November 2024, German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV), Berlin
The German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport invites you to the first International Digital Dialogues Conference. It will convene over 100 selected representatives from all partner countries. Focus topics include sustaining a free internet, digital public infrastructure (DPI), the digital economy and artificial intelligence (AI) in the super election year 2024.

BRAZIL

Webinar on AI regulation and the environment: Pathways to a sustainable planet

10 July 2024, 09:00-11:00 (BRT) / 14:00-16:00 (CEST), Online
The Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue will host a webinar about “AI regulation and the environment: pathways to a sustainable planet”, in partnership with the G20 engagement groups for Business (B20) and Think Thanks (T20). The public is invited to follow the livestream on YouTube and ask questions in the chat.

GENERAL

International Digital Dialogues at re:publica 2024

BMDV was present with a booth at re:publica 2024 – the largest festival for the digital society in Europe. Interviews and discussions with stakeholders from the International Digital Dialogues took place at the booth, with a focus on (1) freedom and security in the digital space, (2) Kenya's digital ecosystem and (3) the role of start-ups for a sustainable digital transformation.

BRAZIL

Launch of the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Hub in Brazil

The Secretariat for the Brazilian-German Digital Dialogue and the EU-Brazil Digital Dialogue supported the establishment of an International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) Hub in Brazil. The hub will act as a facilitator for companies that want to contribute to the development of data spaces in Brazil.

Side event during Web Summit Rio: Scaling AI-based business models in Brazil

An exchange on “Scaling AI-based business models in Brazil” took place as a side event during the Web Summit Rio. The event was organised in partnership with the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Rio de Janeiro and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action. It gave European start-ups a better understanding of the Brazilian market.

INDONESIA

Indonesian-German exchange on data protection authorities and officers

The Secretariat for the Indonesian-German Digital Dialogue organised an exchange on data protection authorities (DPA) and data protection officers (DPO) in Germany and Indonesia. It took place on 2 May and revolved around DPA and DPO frameworks. It followed up on a fruitful exchange on personal data protection held in 2023.

KENYA

Kenyan-German policy exchange: Developing an AI strategy

On 22 May 2024, BMDV and the Kenyan Ministry of Information, Communications and The Digital Economy (MICDE) discussed Germany's learnings and best practices in developing its national AI strategy. After learning about Germany's AI strategy, the Kenyan ministry will continue to draft their own AI strategy that suits the Kenyan context and the new age of AI.

SINGAPORE

Panel discussion on disinformation and deepfakes

The use of AI-generated images and videos to spread disinformation is on the rise worldwide. As part of the Singaporean-German Digital Dialogue, State Secretary Stefan Schnorr from BMDV discussed current challenges and possible solutions with stakeholders from research and industry at the AsiaTech x Singapore 2024 summit.

AsiaTech x Singapore 2024: Exchange on the Singaporean-German Digital Dialogue

From 29 to 31 May 2024, State Secretary Schnorr from BMDV took part in the AsiaTech x Singapore technology conference. He met with German and Singaporean stakeholders in the technology sector, and agreed on the next steps of the Singaporean-German Digital Dialogue with the Singaporean Ministry of Communications and Information (MCI).
